CompassSpeed Privacy Policy

Overview

Thank you for using "CompassSpeed" (the "App"). We take your privacy and the protection of your personal information seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information related to you when providing features such as the compass, speed display, speed recording, route playback, level (inclinometer), altitude/barometric pressure display, and Live Activities.

In short: the App does not collect your account information, and it does not upload your location, motion, or speed recording data to our servers — this data is stored only on your device by default (if you enable iCloud sync, data syncs only within your own iCloud account, which we cannot access).

The App is developed by CoderChan (the "Developer").

Information We Process

The App does not require you to register an account, and it does not collect your name, phone number, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or calendar. To provide its core features, the App may process the following information on your device:

• Location information — Used to display your current speed, heading, coordinates, altitude, and address information; to record your route; and to support background speed recording while a recording is in progress. Obtained through iOS Location Services. Before a recording starts, it is used mainly for real-time display; once speed recording starts, the App saves data related to that recording, such as coordinates, speed, accuracy, and time.
• Heading / compass information — Used to display compass direction and true/magnetic north. Processed on the device through iOS location and heading capabilities.
• Motion and sensor information — Used to display the level, help determine motion state, and fuse altitude/barometric pressure data. Processed on the device through iOS motion sensors, motion activity, and barometer/altimeter capabilities.
• Speed recording data — Used to show your history, and to calculate distance, average speed, maximum speed, routes, and charts. Stored locally on your device; if you enable (or the current version provides) iCloud sync and your device is signed in to iCloud, recording data may sync to your private iCloud database.
• Preferences — Used to save settings such as speed unit, coordinate format, altitude unit, pressure unit, and map coordinate display mode. Stored locally on your device.
• Live Activity data — Used to display information such as current speed, elapsed time, and distance on the Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island, or in the system Live Activity area. Presented through iOS ActivityKit.
• Feedback email information — When you choose to contact the developer, used to diagnose issues and respond to your feedback. The email body may include the App version, system version, and device model; if you choose to send it, the email may include a compressed archive of the App's runtime logs.

How Location Information Is Used

The App uses the location permission for the following purposes:

• Displaying real-time data such as compass heading, coordinates, address, speed, and altitude.
• Showing current speed and GPS signal status in the speedometer.
• When you actively start a speed recording, saving route samples, speed, distance, time, and accuracy data for that recording.
• While a speed recording is still in progress, allowing continuous speed and route recording in the background; once recording stops, background location is no longer used for recording.

You can disable or adjust the App's location permission at any time in iOS "Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services." If you turn off the location permission, features that depend on location may not work properly.

How Motion and Sensor Permissions Are Used

The App uses system capabilities such as motion sensors, motion activity, and the barometer/altimeter in order to:

• Display the level.
• Display or help calculate data such as altitude and barometric pressure.
• Help determine motion state to improve the stability of speed display and distance estimation.

This data is primarily processed in real time on your device. You can manage the relevant permissions in iOS system settings; if you turn them off, the level, motion-state detection, and pressure/altitude features may be affected.

Data Storage and Sync

By default, the App's speed recordings and route samples are stored locally on your device, including but not limited to:

• Recording start and end times.
• Recording duration, total distance, average speed, and maximum speed.
• Raw GPS coordinates, smoothed route coordinates, location accuracy, and speed accuracy.
• Segment information, distance increments, cumulative distance, and sample times.

If you delete a speed recording, the App deletes that recording and its corresponding sample data.

If you enable (or the current version provides) iCloud sync and your device is signed in to iCloud, the App may sync speed recordings to your private iCloud database through Apple CloudKit so they can be shared across your devices. iCloud data is provided and managed by Apple; we do not receive or store your iCloud data on our own servers.

Third-Party Services and System Services

The App does not integrate any advertising SDK or third-party analytics SDK, and it does not use your data for cross-app or cross-website tracking.

The App uses system capabilities and services provided by Apple, including but not limited to Location Services, reverse geocoding, map display, CloudKit, ActivityKit, and the mail composition interface. These system services may process related data in accordance with Apple's privacy policy.

The App also uses certain third-party open-source libraries for local logging, log compression, and device model identification. In the current implementation, these libraries are not used for advertising, analytics, or actively uploading data to the developer's servers.

Feedback Email and Logs

When you choose to contact the developer within the App, the App opens the system mail interface to compose a feedback email. The email may include:

• The App version.
• The iOS system version.
• The device model.
• The problem description you write in the email body.
• The compressed archive of the App's runtime logs that you choose to send.

The logs are used mainly to diagnose problems with the App. Before sending, you can review, edit, or cancel the email in the system mail interface. We only receive the email content and attachments after you actively send the email.

What We Do Not Do

Except as otherwise described in this policy, the App does not:

• Require you to create an account or sign in to a developer server.
• Actively upload your speed recordings or route data to a developer server.
• Sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertising platforms or data brokers.
• Use your data for cross-app or cross-website tracking.
• Read your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, calendar, or clipboard contents.

When the system mail interface is unavailable and you choose to copy the developer's email address, the App only writes the developer's email address to the system clipboard; it does not read your clipboard contents.

Data Retention and Deletion

Speed recordings stored locally remain on your device until you delete them within the App or uninstall the App.

If you have enabled iCloud sync, the retention and deletion of synced data are also affected by Apple's iCloud mechanisms. You can delete records within the App, turn off iCloud sync, manage iCloud storage, or contact Apple for more information about managing iCloud data.

Feedback emails and their attachments are retained for a reasonable period necessary to address the issue, after which they are deleted or anonymized, unless laws or regulations require longer retention.

Your Rights and Choices

You can manage your information in the following ways:

• Enable, disable, or adjust permissions such as location and motion & fitness in iOS system settings.
• Delete your speed recording history within the App.
• Adjust preferences such as units, coordinate format, and map coordinate display mode in the App's settings.
• Decide whether to send the feedback email and log attachment in the system mail interface.
• Submit access, correction, deletion, or inquiry requests to us using the contact information provided in this policy.

Because the App primarily processes data locally, some requests may require you to take action on your own device.

Protection of Minors

The App does not provide account services aimed at children of any specific age group, and it does not knowingly collect children's personal information. If a guardian believes that a minor has sent us personal information, they may contact us using the contact information provided in this policy, and we will handle it after verification.

Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy in response to feature changes, legal or regulatory requirements, or App Store review requirements. The updated policy will be made available through the in-app entry point, the App Store page, or other appropriate means. If an update involves a significant change to how personal information is processed, we will notify you in a more prominent manner within a reasonable scope.
